6 Steps To Perfect Hair

24th May 2023
The key to perfect hair is to identify what your hair and scalp needs.

1.   Shampoo

Using a salon professional shampoo is your best starting point and choosing a product range that is sulphate and paraben free will ensure you are getting good quality haircare. Avoid shampoos brought from a supermarket as they claim to be full of all nourishing goodness when in reality, they contain all the nasties you should avoid putting on your hair.

If you suffer from an oily scalp, it could be down to using products that are too heavy for your hair. Try swapping it to something that is designed to be used daily as these tend to be lighter on the hair.

2.   Condition

Aside from treatments, a good conditioner is one of the most important steps in your haircare routine. The conditioner sits on the outer layer of the hair and when combed through it ensures full coverage, smooths all your hair cuticle down giving the hair structure protection, combability and shine.

( Smooth cuticles = shiny hair.)

3.   Treat

The treatment stage is the pinnacle of your hair routine and the key to getting perfect hair.

Unlike a conditioner, a treatment penetrates deeper into the hair, helping to moisturize, smoothen, and detangle as well as reducing frizz. Treatments work by coating the hair shafts with a protective seal that improves texture and gives shine to show off your healthy hair.

4.Tone

Toning your hair at home is a great way to maintain your colour between your salon appointments. The most popular form of toning is for blond hair and is known as “purple shampoo.” They are designed to remove any yellow tones specifically found in blondes and naturally grey heads of hair. However, there are now pigmented shampoo and conditioners made by Davines for all-natural hair colours whether you want a natural look or be a bit more creative, e.g., pinks and blues.

What is the difference between styling and finishing?

The best way to describe the difference in styling products and finishing products is to compare your hair care routine to making a cake. Styling products are your ingredients (the products that go on wet hair) and finishing products are decoration (the products that go on dry hair).

5. Style

This stage of your routine is where you start preparing your hair for blow drying. Heat protectors, mousses and volumizers are crucial at this point as these are the products that will give you volume, hold and control to help create your desired look.

6.Finish

So now for the final finishing off, your hairsprays, serums ,waxes and gels.

To show texture, shine or give hold, there’s something for all of us.
