Mosaic is a colour safe salon and skin testing is something we have always taken very seriously.
During lockdown the Government announced changes to the different systems available to skin test
But at the same time introduced a new, medicated product called Colourstart available to purchase for people over the age of sixteen.
Colourstart is a controlled way of testing for allergies against hair colour. It takes away the inconvenience of needing to go the hair salon 48hours before each colour appointment.
It is simple and potentially only a one-off skin test.
The Colourstart test is self-adhesive plaster that is made up of two parts, one part containing 65 micrograms of PPD and the second part containing no PPD.
If someone was to have a reaction to PPD it would look like the picture below.
This is an allergic reaction to PPD meaning you should not have your colour done by a professional or use any shop brought hair colour yourself at home.
For more information about the benefits of the Colourstart system please feel free to call us on 01727 866807 or head over to the skin testing section on our website.
If a hair salon or home hairdresser does not require you to do a skin test, alarm bells should be ringing. Without a legitimate form of skin testing in place, you or your hairdresser will not be insured.
