When I think of Mosaic, I think of my mum. Sally Jimminson - company director and founder, and all-around fabulous lady. She is not only the most supportive, caring and incredible mother and friend you could ask for, but is a natural leader and inspiring business woman. Anyone who has met her will agree she has bought those traits into Mosaic, which is what makes it such a special company and, really, along with the amazing work the staff do, it’s the heart and soul of the business. Not everyone can operate successful business with such humanity and soul - but she sure manages it.
The years have dealt a mixture of cards, with so many good times and celebrations, along with some challenging obstacles. Mum has dealt with all of them with just the right balance of reason and emotion, and is a constant inspiration to myself and so many others.
She is, of course, far too humble to say this herself, so I thought I’d say it for her. Happy 30th Birthday Mosaic! And congratulations, Mum. You’re one in a mil.

Here’s the Mosaic story…
At the age of 22 a conversation with good family friends, Steve and Anne, turns into the exciting start of a joint business venture. They see the spark in Sally and want to invest in a salon with her. After 2 years of location hunting, 7 Holywell Hill becomes the home of Mosaic Hair Studio! Opening finally on 27th May 1989, with a small team of 3, Mosaic is born. She has 1 stylist (Helen), an apprentice (Sarah), the backing of Steve and Anne and the support of some wonderful family and friends. It’s a bold move - she is young, brimming with enthusiasm and perhaps a little naive - but she knows what she wants and has the talent to do it! They are hard at work and the business grows.
Fast forward 18 years, now with 18 members of staff, Mosaic relocates to The Quadrant, Marshalswick. This move is made with a heavy heart, however necessary due to structural problems on Holywell Hill. The move became a great one for what was an already thriving business, owing to a light, airy and modern building with great amenities. The new salon opening was a success, and with the support of a fantastic team, loyal clients along brand new ones, business thrived more than ever.
Over the years, Sally and the team have got involved alongside other Hertfordshire salons, creating positive relationships and learning from each other in an often competitive industry. She would like to extent special thanks to Gary Hunt who personally trained Sally, and continued to be a source of knowledge and advice over the years - a favour which she can now return with her own expertise! Sally has worked with Wella as a guest stylist, showcasing cutting and styling ideas to audiences of over 100 at a time. She is a fantastic hairdresser, and recognises the important of passing this on, taking on apprentices and training her staff to an incredibly high standard in her training school and beyond. Sally is a constant personal and professional support for her team and encourages them to aim high and achieve their full potential.
Today, the Mosaic team is a fully grown family of 19 with over 2000 clients. Sally is as passionate as ever in delivering the highest standards of hairdressing, with a personal, friendly service in a welcoming atmosphere. She has built a team who share her passion and strive to ensure that all clients leave her salon feeling fabulous, and looking forward to their next visit.
So it’s a massive Happy 30th birthday to Mosaic and a huge thank you from Sally to everyone that has worked for Mosaic over the years, and to the clients that have made it all possible.
