Why we have dry hair in Winter

18th December 2023
Thanks to a mixture of cold weather and indoor heat our skin and hair becomes dry in the winter months – dry, dull and sometimes hair breakage, are all too familiar. Here are our winter hair care tips to keep your hair healthy and hydrated, no matter how low the temperatures go...

1. DRY AND DULL HAIR

With colder temperatures and windy days, time spent outside can make your hair dry and dull, Plus, the winter months can also affect your skin and scalp, leaving the hair follicles feeling parched. So it’s important to top up moisture levels with a nourishing winter hair routine – one that's packed with vitamins and minerals to keep dryness and dullness away.

2. STATIC HAIR AND FRIZZ

The colder months air can be extra misty and damp, or crisp and icy weather can make your hair look frizzy or static. Both are signs that your hair could do with a little extra moisture, and while the tips for dry hair above will help, some extra tricks are needed to keep locks smooth through the winter weather.

3. SPLIT ENDS AND HAIR BREAKAGE

As well as making your hair dry, dull-looking, and frizzy, cold weather can lead to hair breakage.  So, if you're noticing more split end than usual, a strengthening routine will need to be added to your routine. Bond-strengthening care products, protective lotions and a gentle touch when styling.

4. FLAKY SCALP WITH DRY SKIN

With the contrast of the indoor heating on high, and the stunning cold weather outside, it’s no wonder we experience an itchy scalp that feels dehydrated, sensitive and flaky. Along with our hair that is thirsty for moisture. So a soothing hair care routine, packed with vitamins and comforting ingredients is very much needed.

5. FLAT HAIR THAT LACKS VOLUME

Hat hair, oh my! We have all experienced this, not to mention the dehydrating effects of central heating. So the colder months can bring limp, flat hair especially for those of us with finer hair so work on removing product build-up and lifting from the roots to give hair strands the fullness they deserve.
